Nursing Home Neglect
Reported cases of abuse and neglect of the elderly are on the rise. The attorneys at George B. Daniel, P.A. are committed to helping families protect victims of abuse who live in nursing homes, skilled nursing facilities or other residential care facilities.
Physical abuse can occur in many settings. Signs that an elderly person may be a victim of physical abuse include frequent injuries such as bruises, cuts, black eyes or burns, especially when a caregiver cannot explain how they happened; frequent complaints of pain without obvious injury and passive, withdrawn, or emotionless behavior.
Neglect is the failure of a caregiver to provide an elderly person with such basic needs as food, shelter, medical assistance, personal hygiene products, heat or air conditioning. In a nursing home or other facility, neglect may be the result of corporate policies or procedures that are detrimental to all of the facility's residents. Signs of neglect may include malnutrition, unexplained weight loss and dehydration; lack of personal cleanliness; constant complaints of hunger; an untreated need for medical or dental care and leaving a person unattended for long periods of time.
Our attorneys are committed to helping families uncover the truth of these troubling cases, seek compensation for our clients' injuries and when possible require changes to the systems or policies that may have allowed the abuse to occur in the first place.
